Creating superhumans! A concept that came alive from science fiction novels! 😀 Swagitout my view and opinion on human genetic engineering is this: Human genetic engineering holds the promise of curing multiple genetic diseases like cystic fibrosis, chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), and Parkinson’s disease. And I’m all for helping people fight disease! So if it is to be used for helping fight nasty disease, I think human genetic engineering needs to go ahead and we need to consider doing it! HOWEVER, genetic engineering could be used to change physical appearance, metabolism, and even improve physical capabilities and mental faculties like memory and intelligence. This I don’t like! I think as people we need to be happy with who we are and what we are. What makes us all so amazing is that yes we are all humans, but we are all different from one another! Its this difference in our genetic DNA pool that I love the most! Gene manipulating people for the sake of looks or smarts is just ridiculous to me! Before we know it we will all look like Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga! eeeeeeeeps! HOPE NOT! I like me for who I am, and I love the people around me for who they are! What do you think? what is your opinion? 😀 Please tell us!
Human genetic engineering (you can find a lot more infor under gene therapy) is a very clever and cutting edge way to fight diseases that are otherwise tricky to handle, including some cancers. I have no problem with it, as it is no different to any other form of treatment to me, and undergoes as much testing to make sure it is okay as others do!
However, human genetic engineering such as cloning of people, or using genetic engineering to “design” people (like with a certain coloured hair, or to be super strong and things like that) is very unethical in my opinion. Bad stuff! We make enough developments in technology on our own. And really, life is short, so why not make it the best you can as a completely unique person in the world!
Hmm I think there is no need for it to change a persons looks! However if it can be used to fix mistakes in the body that is causing a disease then I think it should be studied and of course only used if completely safe!!
I think that therapeutic uses can be beneficial…especially to avoid terminal and common diseases like cystic fibrosis. People that know they carry faulty genes are already allowed to undergoing embryo selection during IVF to have children and this involves taking a cell from a developing embryo and genetically testing it for the defective gene. The embryos that are not carrying the faulty gene are then selected for use to make babies for those families.
I think the other guys have summarised it nicely. Genetic engineering to help cure diseases or genetic disabilities would be fantastic, and I hope there are advances in that very soon!
I think altering genetics just to change a baby’s appearance or make people better at sports is a bit too far. It’d remove a lot of the variety in life, make everything a bit boring.

That’s an awesome question, swagitout.

So, for health = yes! For fun = no.
