Question: What really are hiccups?

Keywords:

  1. ver007 hiccups are the most annoying and funny strange spasms of your diaphragm. Your diaphragm is this very thin internal muscle that stretches across the bottom of the rib cage and sit right above the tummy area. Hiccups are tricky because we still don’t really know why we get them. Some scientist believe that hiccups are an old response that we still have left in our bodies from our ancient amphibian (frog like!) states. Others think that the diaphragm is a way of your body getting rid off extra air that has built up in our tummies. If you ask me, I would rather burp my A B Cs then get the hiccups!

  2. Mia’s got it! Great question though; you must be destined to be a scientist, not many people would think about hicups that way!

  3. Mia is all over this one…apart from the fact your tummy is under your diaphragm! Maybe hiccups are left over from when we were in the womb and had lots of liquid in our lungs? I know both of my children when in my body would hiccup ALL THE TIME!! It used to wake me up in the middle of the night when pregnant!
