Question: Will the sun eventually run out of energy and stop shining?

  1. jlim48 more awesome questions from the master! Yes the sun will run out and stop burning! It will basically “die” after using all of its energy. But this will be billions of years from now. So we have no worries, and it would be very unlikely humans would even be living on earth by then! That’s a good thing though, cos when the sun dies, you can kiss earth goodbye!

  2. Jlim48, cool question! but don’t worry mate! We will be LONG gone by the time that giant star stops shinning!

Stars, in this case the sun, shine because a huge amount of energy is created in their cores by a process called nuclear fusion.
This Nuclear fusion happens when lighter elements, like hydrogen, combine into heavier elements, like helium.
Astrophysisicts predict that the in about 5-6 billion years, the hydrogen in the sun’s core will run out and the sun will not have enough fuel to power this nuclear fusion. So that is when it will stop shinning!

5-6billion year! nah! I have nothing to worry about, I’ll be gone by then!!!!!
